A catalyst in Ron’s transformational story is the lessons learned when he created Ralph, a wildly popular and sometimes controversial (see The Ralph Controversy) comic strip he wrote and illustrated while in college. In fact, his Ralph character was crowned Homecoming King at the University of Nebraska. After scouring his archives, scanning and cleaning up decades-old comic strips, Ron put together The Ralph Experience webpage, a complete chronicle of his work during those formative years. While sometimes sophomoric, vulgar, and sexist … many will still find this work entertaining … but it might be specially enlightening to aspiring cartoonists just trying to figure things out … or for old Nebraskans who fondly remembered a cartoon character winning Homecoming King in 1975.
According to Ron (and many others), “There is no such thing as failure if you have grown from the experience.” This summarizes Ron’s mindset through his many failed newspaper syndication attempts. A few years back, Ron had an opportunity to share his testimony throughout the Pacific Rim. When a few Aussies heard he was coming to their area, they traveled several miles to camp on the lawn of the church where Ron was scheduled to speak the next morning. They had been distributing hundreds of Ron’s cartoon tracts in the streets of Sydney and relished the opportunity to meet Ron personally and thank him for his work at helping to spread the gospel. In the interview, the news reporter asks Ron for his perspective on the Paris cartoonists shooting in 2015. Ron believes that if someone doesn’t like what he draws, being taken down by terrorists will have the opposite effect they intend. It is only going to make his work more popular and his Christian message through his tracts will spread further.

Portfolio Wild is rapid-fire video collection of Ron’s work presenting a cornucopia of facial expressions, emotions, and energy. One client described Ron’s work as having a feel of being “really edgy” but actually “being safe” for almost any audience.
Portfolio Mild is a little different. Since much of Ron’s work has been for Christian ministries and publishing companies, some of his clients prefer samples that are a little “less exuberant” and a little “more reverent” … whatever that means.
